Artist Statement for this installation

I believe that the viewer and the photographer are in a partnership, a relationship. My main artistic photography goal is to create narrative and interpretive images that convey literal and symbolic meaning to the viewer — visual narratives that are emotive and meaningful to the viewer.

Those ideals also inform my event photojournalism efforts. As an event photojournalist I volunteer for the Oceanside Museum of Art and capture many of their incredible events. The three images on display at Brooks Theatre are from one of OMA’s annual events, Art After Dark/Dia de los Muertos.

I think that organizations like Brooks Theatre and Oceanside Museum of Art are more than living art; they are strategic for creating a community worth living in.
